Turkey Scoot Run November 30th 2008

By Director - Posted on 02 December 2008

Hi Guys,

What a beautiful day it turned out to be on November 30th 2008 !

Unlike some past years, our 2008 Turkey Scoot Run was dry, blue skies, bright and sunny ! The day started out at 9.00 am, meeting for registration at Maui Harley-Davidson - Upon arrival at the Harley Shop, Joe and the gang were already setting up tables for us and laying out a spread of coffee and pastries ! Outside in the parking lot Gary was setting up the back drop for a photo shoot, of all the bikes and riders soon to arrive;  With our chapter flag and 'Turkey Scoot' poster in place, he was soon snapping away getting some great photo's of approximately 120 awesome Harley's and their riders !!

Inside registration for the run had begun with Kathleen and April, signing up riders & Rob and Paul and pulling poker hands and selling raffle tickets !

10.00 am soon arrived and it was time to gather everyone inside the Harley Shop for the pre-ride talk and prayer.

On behalf of Maui Harley - Davidson, the Maui H.O.G Chapter and Lulu's Restaurant in Lahaina, I welcomed everyone to our 6th Annual Turkey Scoot Run, thanked them for coming, Rob & I  gave everyone a description of our ride, safe riding proceedures and the days festivities, I also let everyone know one of our fellow riders and freind - Rebel - Has recentely passed away and our blessings and condolence go out to all family and freinds !

At that point the only standing between us and the open road - Was our pre - ride prayer !!

Let Us Pray.

Lord - Thank you once again for giving us this new day.

We ask you guide us and keep us safe - As we travel around our beautiful Island.

Lord - We ask you guide us, watch over us and keep us all safe in your arms, so we may return home safely to our loved one's at the end of the day.

Lord - We ask you bless not only our H.O.G members and their families - But everyone that is present and their families - Keep them safe now and always.

And Lord - As we travel around our Island today, enjoying the freedom - The sunshine - The open road - The wind in our face -- And the camaraderie of our fellow riders.

Let us never forget those men and women that have fought for - And died for our freedom -- And -- Those men and women that are still fighting in the name of freedom today.

Lord - We ask you bless them and their families - Keep them safe - So they, may return home to their loved one's one day - And be able to enjoy the same freedoms they have afforded us today.

And lastly Lord - We ask you receive and embrace the soul of our brother Rebel - Forgive him of any sins and guide him into his rightful place in heaven.

All these things we ask your blessing - In Jesus name we pray - Amen.

Everybody saddle up and -- LET'S RIDE !!

From Maui Harley-Davidson we headed to Iao Valley where we dropped off a card of condollence and a donation check from the Maui H.O.G Chapter to the family of Rebel - They had a service at Iao Valley that morning and spread his ashes.

From there we headed towards our 1st poker stop at Rice Park in Kula - With our Road Captains working extremely hard and doing an excellent job ! We all made it to Rice Park in one group, where Harold & April were waiting with a cooler full of sandwiches and refreshments for everyone !

With everyone refreshed and legs stretched we were back in the saddle and headed for  Giggle Hill Marine Park via, Kaupakalua Road, Five Corners, Hana Hwy and the working our way along the old Haiku Road to Haiku Cannery and up to Giggle Hill - What a beautiful picturesque ride that was ! Not a cloud in the sky and beautiful sunshine all the way ! Upon reaching Giggle Hill Marine Park everyone was ready for a 30 minute break and some more refreshments ! Paul & Michael soon got the table set up and were pulling poker hands and marking papers. While the rest of us were feeding our faces and and wetting our whistle's !

With all business out of the way, we mounted our trusty steeds and headed for Flemming Beach Park in Kapalua - Flemming was voted the best beach in America in 2004. As we headed away from Giggle Hill - Once again it was time for our Road Captains to shine and go back to work ! - And SHINE they did !!  They got us all to Flemming without a hitch !! --  By the time we reached Flemming I think everyone was ready for an ice cold beer and some good food !! Even if they didn't drink beer !!  - So with no time wasted, once again, the poker chips came out and the boys were getting business taken care of and marking everyone's poker sheets as quickly as they could !!

Our final stop and finish party was at LuLu's Restaurant in Lahaina - Upon arrival we were greeted by Ron (Lulu's manager) and a basket full of ice cold beer and a pretty girl to serve it !! --  Life don't get much better than that !!

What a fantastic day out this years Turkey Scoot was !!  --  A beautiful sunny November day riding with the best people in the world !! - If you were not able to make it out this year ! - Mark your calendar for the 2009 Turkey Scoot !! - You'll be glad you did !! And finally -- Thank you to all of our Road Captains for doing a fantastic job !!  - You guys are definitely -

THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
