1st Annual Turkey Scoot Benefit Run: B.B.Q. for MDA
'Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day ! I got a beautiful feeling, everything's . oh my gosh, it's RAINING !!!' Not today, oh please not today !! But no worries . the first annual Turkey Scoot for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, showed tremendous impact on the island community of Maui and the Hawaiian state, and was "wildly successful." Ninety riders roared in for the big event. Rain or shine, it didn't matter. Today was for a good cause. At around 9:30ish the 1st pack of bikes revved up their engines and headed for Rice Park in Kula. Second stop was Hookipa in the pouring rain. Everyone took out their umbrellas . NOT !!! The third leg of the run was up to Iao Valley, and then finished up back at the Harley-Davidson dealership. Winners of the 50/50 and the poker run were announced and then the tunes began.
Entertainment was provided by "The Twangers", a classic rock & blues band, with awesome lyrics like "Born to be Wild", "Hurt So Good", & "Runnin' Down the Highway". You know . REAL MUSIC !! Next, while everyone was grinding on burgers & dawgs, our chapter director Glen Looman handed out thanks and blessings to all who contributed.
Over 72 businesses & establishments graciously donated merchandise, gift certificates, and services. Maui's own Harley-Davidson & Kawasaki dealership showed their island hospitality by opening up their doors early and supplying all the great food & drink. They even donated the much coveted 100th anniversary Harley-Davidson flag for the raffle giveaway. Thanks Mick . you're the best !
All in all a grand total of $2,000.00 was collected, with over $1,400.00 going to MDA. A special aloha goes out to Audrey Taniguchi, district director of MDA on Oahu, for all her wisdom, help and support to make this fund raiser so gratifying. Let's do it again next year, Audrey.
From beginning to end this charitable milestone was a winner for everyone. Listed below are the names of the sponsors who made this time together so memorable and fun. Please show your gratitude to them by eating, shopping and buying Maui first. Maui is "No Ka Oi". Mahalo to all and bless you.
