After you have picked up your bike, a beautiful ride is a quick trip to Harold Rice Park. Rice Park is located on Lower Kula Road in Kula: upcountry about 2500 ft above sea level. Bring a camera and jacket, since it might be cool up country. The ride from Kihei to Harold W. Rice Memorial Park on Hwy 37 takes about 35 minutes. Turn left at Rice Park, 8/10th of a mile past mile marker 13. Drive up the road about 100 yards and park. The best time to go is early in the morning, since you might get some light showers in late afternoon. Stop at Rice Park and take panoramic pictures of Maui.
After Rice Park, continue on to Grandma’s Maui Coffee Shop. About 3 miles past Rice Park, on your right.
If you want more beautiful sights and winding roads, continue on for another five miles until you get to Tedeschi Vineyards and Winery and the quaint Ulupalakua General Store. Stop at the old general store and have lunch and enjoy your day. Take some pics. The store has two cats that are very friendly and will want to share your sandwich. Walk around the vineyard (tours are available). After your stop at the Ranch, you can continue on but not recommended since the road will get rough and eventually you will end up in Hana!!
That’s it for a short trip. You can contact me if you want to ride with me and other friends during the week. The HOG group rides on Sunday.
Mahalo and welcome to Maui!
